15 Ingenious Uses for WD-40 You Didn't Know About

Chances are, you have a can of WD-40 in your cabinet, but you might not know that it's good for way more than just greasing squeaky doors. There are thousands of possible uses for this magic spray, but here are fifteen you absolutely need to try! It's a way lower price tag compared to rounding up separate sprays for everything in your home!

1. Prevent snow build-up on your house

Before a big snowstorm is set to hit, spray your eaves and windows outside with WD-40 to make snow slide right off. This should prevent snow build-up that can cause leakage and damage.

2. Waterproof your shoes

No more expensive weather-proofing spray! Spraying WD-40 on your shoes will waterproof them from snowy winter weather grime and scuff marks. We always suggest testing out a spot on the shoe first just in case.

3. Remove wax or glue from your carpet

In the event that candle wax (even crayons) or wet glue spills on your carpets, WD-40 can handle getting it out. Spray it on the stained spot, let it dry and then clean up with a soft cloth or sponge.

4. Keep squirrels off bird feeders

Squirrels are crafty! Sometimes no matter how hard you try to squirrel-proof your bird feeders, they still find a way up there. WD-40 should do the trick, though. Spray the top of the feeder to create a slippery surface that makes it difficult for squirrels to balance on.

5. Keep wasps from building nests

If you live in a house that sees a lot of wasp nests being built up each spring, this trick is for you! Instead of having to knock them down after they're already built, prevent it by spraying WD-40 under your roof or other areas where you tend to find nests. WD-40 is waterproof, and one spray can last up to a year.

6. Clean your bathroom tiles

Bathroom tiles and countertops can be tricky to get squeaky clean, but WD-40 can remove virtually everything from them. Use it with a sponge or scrub brush next time you clean your bathroom tiles and watch stubborn gunk disappear.

7. Loosen stuck zippers

This one should be obvious, but chances are you never thought about using WD-40 when a zipper on your clothing or bags got stuck. Simply spray it on the zipper to lubricate it, but avoid getting it on any fabric that it could stain.

8. Clean your toilet bowl

WD40 has other uses in the bathroom, too. Nasty stains and build-up in your toilet bowl can be a real pain to remove. Spray WD-40 on the inside of the bowl, letting it sit for a minute and then cleaning it out.

9. Keep your lawn mower grass-free

If you let your grass get too long, or if it's too wet, you can get grass jammed in your hover lawn mower blades. Put WD-40 underneath your mower to prevent grass from sticking.

10. Remove tea stains from your counter

Whether you accidentally left a tea bag on the counter or your cup made a ring on it, WD-40 can fix it. Just spray the counter down and wipe away the stain with a sponge or soft cloth.

11. Remove ink from stained jeans

Granted this doesn't happen all too often, but if it does, you'll know just how to get it out. Squirt a little WD-40 on the ink stain and then wait a few minutes before rinsing out the jeans completely. This would also work for pesky food like tomato stains.

12. Repel slugs and snails from plants

More bug repellent power! WD-40 will keep snails and slugs away from your outdoor potted plants. Create a slippery surface by spraying the outside of the pot or planter.

13. Keep cockroaches and spiders out of your house

Keep cockroaches, insects and spiders our of your home with WD-40. Use it like a normal chemical repellent, spaying your windowsills and door frames. Wipe up excess residue from surfaces, and do not use WD-40 for this purpose if you have small children in your home.
