Mum's clever £1 cleaning hack transforms rusty towel rails in minutes

Towel rails are one of the most annoying things to clean in your home.

The heated racks collect a lot of dust – and they can rust too as they come into contact with water regularly.

Thankfully, there are ways you can make your rails look brand new.

On the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook group, a woman called Eve revealed how she used The Pink Stuff paste and tin foil to transform the racks.

The Stardrops product is a favourite of housework whiz Mrs Hinch and retails at around £1.

You can pick it up at The Range for just 89p or it can be snapped up for a quid at Sainsbury’s and Wilko.

In her post the mum wrote: "Well, I’m amazed...just used The Pink Stuff and foil on my disgusting old rusty towel rail and it looks nearly brand new!

"Was thinking of buying a new one but saw a post on this group. As you can see it definitely works!"

So how can you use the product for the cleaning hack?

Eve told the Mirror: “All I did was scoop a small amount of The Pink Stuff paste onto some scrunched up tin foil and gently rubbed the rusty towel rail.

"It took minutes with hardly any effort.”

Eve added: "I would think it would cause scratching on some surfaces but none to be seen on my chrome towel rail!"

If you are going to try the tip, we’d recommend you doing a patch test on your rack first.

As The Pink Stuff paste is an abrasive formula, you should double check how it works on your surfaces.

This should hopefully prevent any scratches from happening.
