A woman has transformed an old couch into brand new again after using a simple soaking trick that works better than a washing machine.

The Australian woman said she decided to 'strip wash' the covers of her partner's couch for the first time in seven years.

After soaking the cushion covers in the bathtub of hot water with washing soda, borax and washing liquid, she was disgusted to see the filthy colour of the water.

The woman strip washed the covers twice before filling the cushions with shredding foam from Clark Rubber

She strip washed the covers twice before filling the cushions with shredded foam from Clark Rubber to sculpt shape and deter mildew.

'Feeling very happy with myself. I really don't like my partner's couch but we decided not to buy a new one until next year' the woman said, alongside pictures showing the incredible results, in Mums Who Clean Facebook group.

'So after two strip washes (he hasn't washed it ever in seven years) and a giant bag of shredded foam, which is really, really messy, this is my results.'

'I didn't take proper before photos because I had already started stripping it. Now to sit on it and enjoy self isolation,' she continued.

'OMG just look at the colour of the water!' one woman wrote, another added: 'I need to do this with mine!'

The three-ingredient soaking system has been taking the internet by storm after many shared some eye-opening before and after photographs.

A strip wash is designed to take heavily used or worn fabrics back to their 'factory settings' according to fans.

It removes dirt, as well as bodily fluids like sweat and bacteria from the fabric in just a few short hours.

And the recipe for the strip washing formula is remarkably simple.

If you want to use your bathtub for a strip wash, you just need to add 1/4 cup of sodium borate, 1/4 cup of soda crystals, plus 1/2 cup of a laundry powder of your choice, before filling the tub up with water and mixing the ingredients until they have all dissolved.

Finally, add the items you wish to strip wash, and leave them to soak.

According to the experts at Freedom Furniture, couch cushions made from washable fabrics should be cleaned as often as required.

Freedom also revealed the type of fabric and how it's maintained will determine how long the look and feel will last.

Understanding the type of fabric the couch is made from will also determine how it should be cleaned and how often.
