Woman's shocking cleaning hack shows hidden dirt lurking on rugs and towels

A shocking cleaning hack shows just how much dirt and grime is lurking on rugs and towels - even after they have been washed.

One woman was stunned to see how much muck came out of her living room rug after a thorough deep clean.

Posting on Tik Tok, the clip showed a bathtub full of cloudy brown water after soaking the grey rug for just five hours.

The woman, from the UK, used a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, Zoflora, two Bold washing capsules and hot water in a bath and also targeted heavy stains with Vanish.

She warned people to "deep clean your rugs" as many users were left grossed out in the comments.

It isn't just rugs that people are trying out the new cleaning hack on - it has worked on bathroom towels too.

One man shared a photo of how much dirty water had seeped out of his towels after a deep clean using the same mixture of products.

Jared Guyens posted on Facebook and said he couldn't believe the grime that came out his freshly cleaned towels.

He wrote: "In this case she took our collection of clean towels, let me say that again, the towels were totally clean, washed and folded and in the linen closet, completely clean, completely normal.

"The story that she told me is that over the years of use, microscopic amounts of soap and detergent get locked in to the fibres of the towels.

“Subsequently that stuff gets gummed up and can also trap microscopic amounts of dirt and grime and bacteria, even after going through the washing machine with detergent.

"So after seeing someone else do it she decided to do the experiment on our own towels here in the tub."

He said he was "literally freaking out right now" after seeing the results, reports The Mirror.

The Facebook post gained more than 30,000 comments as people said: "I need to clean my towels now!"
